Ukraine. Europe. Identity.
The story of Romana, the story of Uljana, the story of Sofia. Three women whose destinies intersect just as history and the present do, as well as the fate of Ukraine and Europe. Romana tries to restore memory and identity to a disfigured, traumatised soldier returning from the fighting in Donbas. Uljana and the Jewish boy Pinchas might have fallen in love, if we were not in Galicia at the end of the 1930s. Through Sofia, we descend even further into the past, into the time of the murderous famine and Stalinist persecution of Ukrainian dissidents. Ukraine as part of the USSR, Ukraine shaping its national identity, Ukraine fighting for its firm place in Europe.
Dušan D. Pařízek: "Russia’s attack on Ukraine is testing Europe in many ways: financial aid and support for humanitarian projects, willingness to engage in transnational dialogue, the acceptance of refugees and their integration in host countries are investments in a shared future. One in which democratic order and the European community mean more than empty words."
Amadoka concludes the Ukrainian trilogy of Dušan D. Pařízek staged at the Theatre X10 between 2022 and 2026. The first production was Moscoviad by Yuri Andrukhovych, followed by a diptych composed of the cult novel by E. M. Remarque and the play by contemporary Ukrainian playwright Natalya Vorozhbyt All Quiet on the Western Front / Green Corridors.
