Beauty is magic. An unattainable goal, a drug, power, and a curse. Both a product and capital, a lucky coin of fate, and an eternal memento mori. Social media convey the impression of beauty, they consume it: loosing it means losing the wildcard in the unfair game of capitalism. Beauty is a privilege. We already know that women are judged much more by their appearance (and often solely by it), that attractive people are ascribed more positive traits, get better jobs, and that society treats them better in many ways. But what is the chance of liberation when we also know that capitalism transforms every revolt into a new product?
In this comic concert based on the work of Swedish author Liv Strömquist, four women guide you through the jungle of flawless faces on social media, the dark forest of Snow White’s murder, and the royal court of Empress Sissi. What is the deal with self-image on Instagram anyway? And why shouldn’t women strive to be attractive when it’s completely obvious that it actually matters? And isn't something falling here?
