REKULTUR

Outcome from the residency programme for emerging playwrights from Central and Eastern Europe

For the third year running, the Rekultur production platform is bringing up-and-coming figures in contemporary drama from Central and Eastern Europe to Kutná Hora. This year, Rekultur is inviting three playwrights from the Baltic states: Gabrielė Česevičiūtė (Lithuania), Oliver Issak (Estonia) and Linda Šterna (Latvia).

The mentorship programme, combined with the genius loci of Kutná Hora and the focused time provided by the artistic residency, creates favourable conditions for artists to engage in experimentation with text and leads them to present newly created dramatic writing. In the final phase of the residency, three Serbian dramaturgs and directors are joining the process.

This presentation will takes the form of an authors’ reading followed by a discussion, with a special appearance by Corrie Tan, President of the Asian Dramaturgs Network. The outcome of the residency programme is an invitation to observe and participate in the process of creating a play, as well as an opportunity to gain an author’s perspective on themes that resonate across the Baltic states.
